We were very excited to visit the town of Graaff-Reinet. We heard so many fantastic things about this place that we felt we had to come and see it for ourselves. The fact that it is the sixth oldest town in South Africa just added to that excitement. It has the most national monuments of any town in the country and is surrounded by the Camdeboo National Park on three sides.

Graaff-Reinet, one of the oldest towns in South Africa, is to become home to one of the world's biggest flags. The giant flag will be made up of millions of coloured desert cactuses and succulents.
They are being planted on previously barren land in the Camdeboo National Park in the Karoo. The flag will be visible from space and will be the size of 66 soccer fields. The project is intended to stimulate the economy of this region of the Eastern Cape.
