Noah’s Arc was established by wildlife enthusiast Guy van Zyl and his family in 2011. Originally intended for the purpose of breeding exotic parrots, it wasn’t long before the colourful birds were joined by all sorts of other creatures.

The van Zyl’s simply couldn’t resist adopting stray, injured or orphaned animals who came their way, often dropped off on their doorstep by concerned passers-by and local farmers. Situated 7km outside Graaff-Reinet on the Port Elizabeth Road, Noah’s Arc is now a safe haven for farm animals, rescued wildlife, wild animals and, of course, the original collection of parrots. Here they have a comfortable place to live, with the best care possible.

 Animal Interaction Centre

Touch, feed and even ride the animals in this interactive part of Noah’s Arc. A guided tour will tell you all you need to know about the creatures housed here, and how important they are in our lives. As well as farm animals, we have a number of wild animals which have come over from the Rehabilitation Centre. These creatures cannot be released because of their injuries, so we make a permanent home for them at Noah’s Arc. We aim to impart as much knowledge as possible about these amazing and exotic animals to our guests, so that they in turn can enlighten their friends and families.

Farm Stall & Tea Garden

The Noah’s Arc Farm Stall sells art and craft products, Mohair goods, home-made produce and, when it is available, fresh seasonal vegetables from hobbyist gardeners in our local community. The Farm Stall also has a dedicated Tea Garden where visitors can enjoy a beverage and a light snack on the front porch or under the shade covering, while the kids run off some energy in the children’s play area.

Noah’s Kids – Birthday Party Bookings

Children are very welcome at Noah’s Arc, and if one of our young guests has a birthday, we want to help make the day even more special. There are three Party Packs available for you to choose from. (please visit our website for more information) When you come for your party, you will find that a suitable area has been set aside for you and your guests for a three hour period. You can book a morning session (10am to 1pm) or an afternoon session (2pm to 5pm).

Your chosen party boxes will be waiting for you here, and coupons for cool drinks and ice cream will be given to the host parent, to be exchanged at the Farm Stall in your own time. Parents will also be able to have free cups of tea and coffee. As an extra surprise, our resident miniature horse, Griffon, will be available for the children to ride during the party. We’ll even dye him your child’s favourite colour! Don’t worry, it’s a vegetable dye and won’t hurt the little fellow!

Visiting hours Monday - Saturday: 9am to 5pm / Sunday: 11am to 3pm
